Ever wish things were different? Pray God will let things go the way you want? At least the way you think you want? Let's remember that His thoughts are not our thoughts, His ways are higher and better. As much as we think we know what we want, our sight is so unbelievably limited we can't fathom what other plans God might have in store, if we just open our eyes to see Him in those unexpected journeys.
In 2 Kings there's a godly guy named Hezekiah who is told that he is going to die. He pleads with God to spare his life for just a while longer. God listens to his prayer and grants his request. Fifteen more years Hezekiah is given on the earth, in which time he is born a son named Manasseh. After Hezekiah's death 2 Kings 21:9 says "Manasseh led them astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites." Manasseh's negative influence was a result of Hezekiah's prayer for his own way.
It makes me wonder what God has spared me of by not allowing me to get my way and serves as a reminder to be thankful that His way is better!
I had never heard that little story about Hezekiah and Manasseh. Wow.
ReplyDeleteThere is a great childrens book about God's plans vs our plans, called The Ledgend of the Three Trees. I highly reccommend it for the little tykes. :o)
