1 Corinthians 9
24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step.
How intentional are we in every moment of our day? Do we view every step that we take as an opportunity to make every effort to increase our faith or do we offer to God the minimum we feel will be sufficient for Him to be pleased with us. Have we fooled ourselves into thinking we are righteous and need only meet certain quota (Bible study: check. Tithed: check) How easy it is to forget that we are to run with purpose in every step.
Amen. Time to run with purpose today. So far, I've just been going through the motions.
ReplyDeletethis comment is for a previous post, regarding the 'wasted free time to get something done'. Although not ideal, and not 100% focused on God, when I'm working in the garden, mowing the grass or some other non-eternal chore, I make an effort to talk to God while I'm working. Sometimes it's singing a song of praise. The nieghbors might think it a bit strange, but that's their problem!
ReplyDeleteI usually start with a prayer of thanks...thanks for blessing me with grass to mow, weeds to pull, gutters to clean, a house to paint, etc. Ken
Though maybe not always achieved, the call to pray without ceasing is at least more fully realized in the discipline of being able to pray in the midst of the mundane parts of life. We are so much more aware of His presence in every moment when our heart and our mind is focused on Him. And who doesn't want that!? Is there anything greater than to be in His presence? I can't think of anything. With that understanding I can't imagine why I would go about *anything* without first, always, seeking Him everywhere - even in the grass, the weeds to pull and the gutters. But how infrequently I actually do!
